AP Psychology Summer Reading

Advanced Placement Psychology students are expected to complete the following summer readings.

Part I:

Choose one book to read from the list below. You may read more than one if you like.

Write a two page summary of the book. Include in the summary information on all of the major characters, as well as, what the story was about. If you are reading a book that is not fiction and there is only one major character, talk in depth about that person. Then, the last page is for you to interpret the book from a perspective of Psychology.

This assignment is to be turned in on the first day of AP Psychology in August.

Part II:

  • Prepare for Chapter 1 in D.Myers' book Psychology, 7E by going to a search engine (I use Alta Vista but Google will work, too) and entering in the search line the words History of Psychology.
  • Go to the Wikipedia and read and take notes on the sections after The Beginnings of Western Psychology—the page will be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_psychology .
  • When finished with that, go back to the search engine and enter  in the search line Research methods in psychology.
  • Then go to the wikibooks site—the page will be found at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Introduction_to_Psychology/Research_Methods_in_Psychology Again, read and take notes.
  • When we return, you will be grouped to do a project.

Have a wonderful summer and come back to a wonderful school year.  My email address if you need me is dpattillo2003@yahoo.com.  Email me if you need help.

AP Psychology students need to purchase a study guide.  Any of the ones available are fine--just make sure it is current (written after 2006).  Barron's Review, Princeton Review, Cliff's Notes, all are good.
