TEAM BEST 44

A foursome has four scores on each hole, so the total number of possible scores per round is four times 18 = 72.

This is a team game of four players with the goal of ultimately selecting 44 best balls (out of the 72 available) to use as the team net score for the tournament.  In this context, the term best ball refers to the lowest net scores on each hole.

Unlike other games, the number of best balls counted per hole is not predetermined; the choice belongs to the team - none, one, two, three or four. The team must use the net score of exactly 44 best balls for the tournament.

After each hole is completed, the challenge will be to declare how many of the four balls from that hole the team wishes to include in the 44 allowed for the tournament. This decision must be made after completion of the hole and before starting play on the next hole. Accumulate the 44 scores too quickly and the team may not be able to use low scores from the late holes; accumulate them too slowly and the team may be forced to use high scores from the late holes.

Once 44 best balls have been counted, the team score - in relation to par - for the tournament has been determined.

TEAM MULTI-BALL TOURNAMENT for ABCD Foursomes

This is a team game with various combinations of net balls counted on the par 3's, 4's, and 5's.

The Tournament Director shall decide which option will be used. Option examples are as follows:

(1-2-3) Par 3's 1 best net ball                      (3-1-2) Par 3's 3 best net balls
Par 4's 2 best net balls                                Par 4's 1 best net ball
Par 5's 3 best net balls                                Par 5's 2 best net balls

(1-3-2) Par 3's 1 best net ball                      (3-2-1) Par 3's 3 best net balls
Par 4's 3 best net balls                               Par 4's 2 best net balls
Par 5's 2 best net balls                               Par 5's 1 best net ball

(2-3-4) Par 3's 2 best net balls                     (4-3-2) Par 3's 4 net balls
Par 4's 3 best net balls                                 Par 4's 3 best net balls
Par 5's 4 best net balls                                 Par 5's 2 best net balls

The convention used to determine how the holes are to be played will be: Par 3, Par 4, and Par 5. The tournaments shown above would therefore be designated 1-2-3, 1-3-2, 3-1-2, etc. On each hole the team shall write one combined team net score on the card.

Games (1-2-3) and (3-2-1) use 44 scores on the average course with 4 par 3's, and 4 par 5's.  That is a little more that the game "two low-net foursome."  Game (1-3-2) uses 54 scores which is the equivalent of "three low-net foursome."  Games (2-3-4) and (4-3-2) use 66 scores which is all but six of the scores that day.

CHOKER PLUS ONE (100% HANDICAP)

This is a variation of Best 2 Balls of 4 except that in this format the "Choker" player's net score must be used on each hole. The best net ball of the remaining 3 players is added to it. Post the gross score of all players on the card and circle the best net that will be used in addition to the "Choker". -

The A Player will be the choker on the 1st, 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th holes.

The B Player will be the choker on the 2nd, 6th, 10th, 14th, 18th holes.

The C Player will be the choker on the 3rd, 7th, 11th, and 15th holes.

The D Player will be the choker on the 4th, 8th, 12th, and  16th holes.

The tournament director will mark the scorecards to reflect the responsibility noted above. A variation of this game includes choker plus two which is the same format except two best nets are used in addition to the choker.

Cattle Drive Scramble

This is a mixed scramble which does not use strategic decision making because play is
determined by the handicap rating of each hole.  Each hole features one golfer playing
his own ball and three golfers playing standard scramble format.  The score for each hole is the sum of the scramble score and the single golfer score.

The A golfer plays his own ball on the 5 most difficult holes, namely, handicap holes 1 thru 5.  At the same time, golfers B,C, and D play a scramble, i.e., each plays from a selected best ball until one ball is holed.

The B golfer plays his own ball on handicap holes 6 thru 10, while golfers A,C, and D scramble for score.

The C golfer plays his own ball on handicap holes 11 thru 14, while golfers A,B, and D scramble for score.

The D golfer plays his own ball on handicap holes 15 thru 18, while golfers A,B, and C scramble for score.

This event is scored similar to a "foursome, two best balls", except that one of the best balls on each hole comes from a three man scramble.

The A and B golfers each play 5 holes, while the C and D golfers each play 4 holes.  A variation on this game has the A golfer playing 6 holes, the B golfer playing 5 holes, the C golfer playing 4 holes, and the D golfer playing 3 holes.  This variation puts a bit less pressure on the weaker golfers.
