Marion County and Florida Writing Assessments
Administered during the 10th (Florida) grade year. These tests are used to assess the writing skills of students in order to evaluate Marion County's writing programs and to compare the results with those of other students in the same grade.
 
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT)
Given to 9th and 10th graders as an assessment tool to determine proficiency. All students must achieve passing scores on the reading, writing, and mathematics sections of the 10th Grade FCAT. Passing the FCAT is essential for graduation with a standard diploma. Students who score a level 1 or 2 in reading or mathematics on the FCAT will be placed in an intensive class regardless of the elective course selected.
 
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)
A short form of the SAT which measure verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities. The PSAT allows students to measure their academic abilities, become familiar with the SAT, and compete for National Merit Scholarships as juniors. This test is only offered in October and should be taken by college-bound sophomores and juniors.
 
SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I)
Administered at Forest High School five times during the school year (October, December, January, March, or May). The SAT-I tests verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities and is used by colleges for admission. College-bound juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply early for the SAT. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.collegeboard.com.
 
SAT Subject Area Test (SAT II)
Required subject area achievement tests for admission and/or placement. The SAT II measure students' knowledge of particular subjects and their ability to apply that knowledge and are required only by the most competitive universities. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.collegeboard.com.

American College Test (ACT)
Administered at Central Florida Community College and Lake Weir High School several times during the school year. The ACT measures skills in English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.act.org.
 
Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
ASVAB, offered to juniors and seniors, is a free test administered twice a year and is used to assist in making realistic career/vocational choices. The test is required for all five branches of the military.
 
Advanced Placement Test
Given in the spring to all AP students. Colleges may offer course credit for high scoring students.
 
Computerized Placement Test (CPT)
Given to interested juniors and seniors throughout the year at Forest and the CFCC campus and used for admission/placement to Florida community colleges.
