  This course includes literature, grammar, vocabulary, writing skills, FCAT preparation, and introduction to research. Literature includes short stories, poetry, drama, novel, biography, and non-fiction.

• English I Honors (1001320)
  Grade 9; Teacher recommendation and FCAT level 3, 4, or 5 in reading required.
  
  This course includes literature, grammar, vocabulary, formal speaking experiences, FCAT preparation, and composition instruction (logical, creative, and critical). Suggested reading lists provided. A basic research paper is required.

  This course includes literature, grammar, writing techniques and practice, vocabulary, FCAT preparation, and spelling. A basic research paper is required.

• English II Honors (1001350)
  Grade 10; Teacher recommendation and FCAT level 3, 4, or 5 in reading required.
  
  This course includes instruction in universal themes in literature, FCAT preparation, and critical analysis of literary genres. Composition instruction emphasizes creative, logical, and critical modes. Suggested reading lists are provided; a formal research paper is required.

• English III Honors (1001370)
  Grade 11; Teacher recommendation and FCAT level 3, 4, or 5 in reading required.
  
  This course includes advanced study of grammar, writing, college admissions preparation, and American literature. Additional novels are added to those taught in the regular English III course. Composition assignments include practice in analysis, comparison and contrast, narration, and exposition. Suggested reading lists are provided; a formal research paper is required.

  This course includes the study of British and World literature, critical analysis, college admissions preparation, vocabulary, and advanced study of communication and interpretation skills. Suggested reading lists are provided.

  Includes development of writing and language skills. Topics include writing a variety of literary works: poetry, short stories, plays, novels, essays and other nonfiction.

  Grades 9-12; ½ credit course
  
  Includes advanced practice in speaking (extemporaneous and informative), discussion, debate, interpretation, interviewing, and parliamentary procedures.

• Humanities I (0900310)
  Grades 9-12; ½ credit course
  
  This is an introductory course dealing with the study of humans and their ideas, and values. A chronological survey of the arts, literature, and ideas in ancient Western culture from prehistoric times to the rise and fall of the Roman Empire will be explored through this course. Greek and Roman mythology units are also included. This course is a valuable elective for the college bound student, since it is often a requirement for four-year college degrees.

• Humanities II (0900320)
  Grades 9-12; ½ credit course
  
  This course expands the concepts of mythology beyond Western civilization. It is a deeper analysis and integration of our world as applied to ancient Greek and Roman mythology. This section will explore world religions, various cultures, archetypes, and multicultural literature.

• AP English Language & Composition (1001420)
  Grade 11: Teacher recommendation and FCAT level 3, 4, or 5 in reading required.
  
  Includes in-depth study of American literature, critical writing on selected readings, vocabulary, and college admissions preparation. Emphasis is placed on author's purpose, audience expectations, and rhetorical strategies. A formal research paper is required. Upon completion of course, students will take the AP exam for college credit.

• AP English Literature & Composition (1001430)
  Grade 12; Teacher recommendation and FCAT level 3, 4, or 5 in reading required.
  
  Includes an in-depth study of British and World literature, critical writing on selected readings, vocabulary, and college admissions preparation. A formal research paper is required. Upon completion of course, students will take the AP exam for college credit.
