Why EMIT? Engineering Academy Curriculum The Academy's curriculum is an integrated program involving both required core academic subjects and selected technical courses. All students complete their mathematics, language arts, social studies, and drafting courses in the Academy. They will also take a course in Engineering Technology to prepare for further focused studies in a chosen field. All students learn the close relationships among all academic subjects and their practical modern-day applications. Satisfaction Students have the opportunity to compare their skills with those of other students nationwide through the Academy's involvement in professional organizations such as the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA). Emit boasts the two time state championship knowledge bowl team in VICA competition. Career Development Skills Students receive in depth exposure to any of several career choices through site visits to many local businesses and college campuses. The Academy program trains students in the principles of the fields of drafting, design and pre-engineering. Students then apply these skills to design mechanical and architectural solutions, and build prototypes using state-of-the-art computer software. Those skills are appropriate to subsequent work or post-secondary education in Architecture, Drafting and Design, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, and Manufacturing Processes. Leadership Skills EMIT Students learn to manage time, materials and resources while they rotate through a series of Academy leadership positions. All students have the opportunity to work through team, group, and Academy level situations. Students also experience leadership, when it comes to problems presented by local industries. Technology Academy Students are intentionally exposed to a wide array of technology on a daily basis. They will learn practical applications of that technology to the solution of typical problems in management and industry. With a ratio of about one computer per student, self-directed study and exposure to simulations running on the two most popular platforms serve to accelerate the educational experience in EMIT. Low student-to-teacher ratios permit EMIT faculty to respond to numerous student questions and actively assist the journey to the world of tomorrow's technology today!
