Guidance News Another successful Career and College Expo was held on September 20th at CFCC. College and Career representatives were there to talk with any students and parents about the programs they have to offer. The event was co-sponsored by the high school counselors of Marion County and CFCC. Forest would like to thank Mrs. Melia Sommer and our PTO for the delicious food items they prepared for the presenters that evening. The guidance counselors are currently speaking to all students in their English classes about important guidance issues such as graduation, college admission, scholarships, study skills, to name a few. Please ask your student for the orange “Career and Educational Planning Handbook” that was given to them. It contains a wealth of information. Seniors are encouraged to come in to the guidance office regularly to check the scholarship cabinet. New scholarships come in all the time. The FCAT will be given on October 2nd and 3rd to juniors and seniors who have not passed one or both sections. Sophomores and freshmen will not test until February and March. The PSAT will be given on October 17th. All 10th graders will be tested free of charge. College-bound juniors who scored well on the 10th grade PSAT are strongly encouraged to sign up for this test. There will be a $15 fee for juniors and sign-ups will begin soon. Juniors will need to see Mrs. Krysalka in the guidance office to sign up. The last sign-up date is October 12th. The 11th grade PSAT results are used to determine National Merit Scholarships.
If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Merians at 671-4700 ext. 58605.
