Senior Parents Time is quickly slipping by and the many activities planned for seniors will soon be here. Please mark your calendar with the following dates. Upcoming Senior Dates
If your senior has not ordered a cap and gown, please do so as soon as possible. Late order forms are available in the Activities Office (B-162) or you can order on line at herffjonesnorthflorida.com. The Senior Class of 2008 proudly announces their Outstanding Seniors. These students were nominated by their peers along with meeting the criteria of grades, attendance, and discipline. Congratulations to Rohan Dass, Daniel Guerra, Danny Mosquera, Michael Radcliffe, Know Strawbridge, Candice Brown, Kelly Chambers, Kathryn Galloway, Diana Williams, and Savanna Yancey. SENIORS! It is IMPERATIVE that you take note of the following information for scholarships and financial aid. NOW is the time to apply for your Bright Futures Scholarship!!! Go to: http://www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org. Students must apply during their last year of high school BEFORE the date of graduation, or they will FORFEIT ALL future eligibility for the Bright Futures Scholarship program. All college-bound seniors and their parents must submit a FAFSA as soon as possible after taxes have been filed. Financial aid for college cannot be accessed through any other means than by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Each state has a deadline to file the FAFSA, so if the student will be attending college out of state, make certain that you adhere to that state’s deadline. The Florida deadline is May 15, but some states have deadlines as early as February 15. The best advice is to file it as soon as possible after January 1. Prior to electronically submitting the FAFSA, students and parents must apply on-line for their personal identification numbers (PIN) which acts as the electronic signature. To get your PIN, log onto the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The worksheets that will be needed to submit the FAFSA can be downloaded as well. Once tax returns have been prepared, the FAFSA can be submitted on-line at that same website. The FAFSA will be transmitted to the federal processor within seconds and the student can find out his or her eligibility within 72 hours after filing. This is an important task that must be accomplished – do not ignore it. Word of Warning: DO NOT USE the fafsa.com website. This website charges a fee and is NOT the federal website. In an effort to assist families with preparing and submitting the FAFSA, CFCC will host “College Goal Sunday” on February 24, 2008. Please refer to the following website for more information: www.fldoe.org/collegegoalsunday/ Students who are working on “outside” credits through Florida Virtual School or Marion Virtual School need to check with those schools for the dates and deadlines for second semester courses. Seniors are the only students who will be allowed to begin a course with Marion Virtual School after February 1. However, if any outside courses are needed to graduate, it is imperative that the student see their counselor as soon as possible. All outside courses must be completed before the end of our school year so that the credits will be reflected on our school’s transcript. Seniors need to stop in Guidance periodically to check on any late-arriving scholarships. At this point in the school year, scholarships come in after our monthly newsletters have been printed and the deadlines might be fast approaching. Keep in touch with the scholarship information! Any senior parents interested in working on the Baccalaureate service, which will be held the week prior to graduation, please call Trudy Yancey at 622-3737 during the day or 694-3463 in the evening.
